Meet The Winner

Marangoni

Marangoni is a world-renowned brand leader in the green tyre retreading industry, in the design and construction of tyre retreading machinery, in the production of TBR and OTR retreaded tyres, and in the manufacture of compounds for technical products. With more than 70 years of experience, the brand is present with its own industrial and commercial facilities on all continents. Marangoni continues to invest successfully in innovation and environmental sustainability.

Nominees

Colmec

Swedish retreading Group Colmec has made several organisational investments over the course of the current year. Earlier in the year, the company combined operations with Finnish tyre group Lapin Kumi to create a new sustainable tyre services group in the Nordic countries. Colmec made a similar arrangement with Swedish company Centrala Gummi in the Spring and acquired Finnish Bandag dealer Pentep Oy in January. The Combined Group now operates across Sweden, Norway, Finland and Poland and aims to have 700 staff and turnover of EUR 250 million by the end of 2024.

Kal Tire

This year, KAL Tire in Canada became a licensee of Tyromer devulcanisation technology and now showcase the best in downsizing; and then in the same facility, it is devulcanising the rubber. KAL Tire also uses devulcanised rubber in their own OTR tyres in significant portions.

Rigdon

German retreader Rigdon made the news In July when it won 2.4 m Euros worth of funding from the German government to build a new passenger retreading plant with a capacity of 300,000 tyres. The company has made significant investments in automation recently, including the development of automatic conveyor systems, the development autonomous vehicles for transport of green tyres around the plant, and several automation projects in conjunction with Italmatic including the development of a shearography prototype using AI technology. The company has also become a leading supporter of Germany’s AZuR Network, and earlier this year hosted AZuR’s Retreading Summit in Günzburg.

Vaculug

UK Retreader Vaculug has continued to be very proactive in 2024 with a variety of sustainability-related activities designed to increase the company’s profile. The Vaculug Sustainability Forum, launched two years ago to promote sustainability in the tyre industry, is growing in terms of attendance and recently hosted the fourth such event. Meanwhile, the company also hosted the BTMA Retread Forum Day. Other activities this year included an investment in Pure Electric – an e-scooter venture, the launch of an in-house production system called ZEUS, and continued involvement in charity work including the Hankook Hopes programme, which helps to educate girls in India.
